Consultations

You can book directly, but a valid referral is needed to claim a Medicare rebate. A GP referral is usually valid for 12 months and a referral from another specialist for 3 months. Without a valid referral, Medicare rebates cannot be claimed.

Procedures and private health insurance

For patients with private hospital cover, Dr Zad charges no gap for procedures such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, Bravo wireless pH testing and haemorrhoid banding. Please note:

  • Your health fund may apply an excess or co-payment to the hospital admission, depending on your policy. Check with your fund that your policy includes gastrointestinal endoscopy (included in Bronze, Silver and Gold hospital cover).
  • The anaesthetist bills separately. Ask our rooms or the anaesthetist about any gap.
  • If you do not have private hospital cover, please ask for a written quote for a self-funded procedure.
  • You will receive an estimate of fees in writing before your procedure.

Capsule endoscopy

Video capsule endoscopy is bulk billed for patients who meet the Medicare criteria, for example investigation of unexplained bleeding or iron deficiency after a gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Our rooms can check whether you are eligible.

DVA (Veterans’) patients

There is no extra fee for eligible Department of Veterans’ Affairs card holders. Please bring your DVA card and referral.
